Job Description

Description

Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors and providing engaging living history programs?

Are you looking to share your passion for African American history with the next generation?

Do you want to work with a team that listens to your perspective and values your knowledge and experience?

If this sounds like you, Montgomery Parks is the place you want to be for your next adventure and career challenge!  We are seeking a multi-faceted and highly motivated individual to fill the role of Cultural Resources Programs Manager in our Cultural Resources Museums Section. This position oversees public programming at three historic sites: Oakley Cabin African American Museum & Park, Olney; Kingsley Schoolhouse, Clarksburg; and the Thomas Harper Cabin at Brookside Nature Center in Wheaton.

Our Cultural Resources Programs Manager will lead a team of interpretive staff and volunteers to develop creative, innovative, and engaging living history programs for students and families with children centered around 19th century African American history, the Reconstruction Era and early 20th century rural educational practices. Responsibilities also include maintaining several historic buildings and collaborating with other Parks divisions on programming that features the diverse culture and history developed during the Reconstruction Era. We bring history to life throughout Montgomery Parks, and the stories of these historic sites span over 150 years of rich cultural history in Montgomery County, Maryland.

We are looking for candidates with proven experience in innovative public history programming— particularly in African American museums, historic sites, or living history settings.
