Description
The IT Specialist Report Writer will work with multiple technical, business and project management teams to define and meet reporting requirements, develop Cognos model/module, dashboards, KPIs and reports. Contribute towards Requirement Analysis, Data Architecture and Modeling, Data Engineering, Systems Integration, Program/enterprise-level Reporting, all types of reports testing and other project deliverables. Candidate will be assigned to multiple projects.
This position would be a Cognos Reporting Expert, who would work with the STAC/Medicaid, Rate Setting and State Aid Units to recreate model/module, reports and dashboards in Cognos BI, which is the reporting tool that will be used once EFRT is migrated off of the mainframe to Unisys.
Duties
- "Under the supervision and guidance of the PMO and Project Manager, the Cognos reporting specialist will work with technical staff, Business Analysts and members of the program/business office to perform the following:
- Work with business teams to document and prioritize incoming business reporting requirements/requests and respond to periodic report requests and issues from various program offices/projects.
- Analyze requirements, seek necessary clarifications, develop/configure, test and deploy Cognos BI model/module, reports and dashboards.
- Convert/configure existing EZSpec reports into Cognos reports.
- Setting-up and facilitating meetings with the business teams to understand reporting needs (As-Is and To-Be) and pain points.
- Create and maintain a periodic reports distribution calendar to monitor and publish appropriate reports for all stakeholders.
- Prepares charts, tables and diagrams and develops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance scorecards
- Demonstrate commitment to data quality and integrity by developing appropriate job aids, internal control processes, testing etc. over Cognos BI reporting.
- Conduct deep dive sessions with teams with a problem-solver attitude.
- Performs historical reports and data mining to provide insights to support improved decision making.
- Analytically apply knowledge of design concepts in database management, data warehousing, data modeling, data quality, business reporting and dashboards.
- Contribute to developing reporting standards and best practices for different projects.
- Collaborate with other teams to prioritize reporting needs
- Perform report rules and parameters reviews to ensure high quality and that standards are being met.
- Ensure business intelligence training needs are identified and met.
- Assist and train team members in developing reports and dashboards and also develop help guides.
- Evaluates business/operational needs and make recommendations for enhanced or additional applications of reporting solutions.
- Develop complex reports and dashboards including different sets of formulas and calculations, relational and multidimensional data structures and logic.
- Uses various database scripting and software programming languages to extract, transform and load data.
- Enhance visual presentation of current reporting solutions
- Ensure production issues and tickets within Cognos environment are resolved in a timely manner.
- Ensure optimum performance and minimal downtime of Cognos supported reports.
- Operate in a hybrid (Agile/Waterfall) environment and actively manage reporting requirements, change requests and user assistance needs.
- Contribute to design and architecture discussions, daily stand-ups, sprint planning sessions and other meetings.
- Become a reporting subject matter expert (SME) and business advisor.
- Support QA/Testing by developing timely reporting test plans, writing and executing test cases, done/acceptance criteria, end-user testing and reporting deliverables validation."
Mandatory Requirements

- Works in the field of Information Technology, experienced in the usage and support of a collection of development platforms, technical architectures or business applications and products that run on those platforms - beyond that of a Programmer.
Requirements
- This is an 100% Onsite
- 72 months experience as a Cognos Reports' Writer/Developer, working with multiple cross-functional teams analyzing existing reports, developing future reports and designing/configuring models/modules using Cognos BI Framework Manager and Data Module. This includes design, development and management of multi-dimensional reports, models, dashboards and ETL data structures.
- 60 months experience in end-to-end Cognos BI (version 11.1.7 and higher) model/module configuration, security, architecture design, administration and maintenance.
- 84 months experience in database management systems, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server SSRS, SSIS integrations and PL/SQL for creating, updating and deploying reports, packages, and writing/troubleshooting T-SQL statements, creating stored procedures, views, triggers, and SQL functions.
- 84 months of experience with analytics, API integrations and dashboards delivery using Cognos, EZSpec, Power BI, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS, with ability to work in waterfall, agile and hybrid frameworks.
- 72 months of experience in all types of reports testing (including functional, regressions, integration, etc.), model/module testing, business process validations reporting needs and data sanity checks. This includes writing and executing test plans, various types of report test cases, report testing procedures & cycles, testing of manual and automated reports, defects tracking, reporting bugs resolution, periodic testing results communication and requirements-based validation/testing for final deliverables sign-off.
- 60 months of experience in supporting cross-functional technology solutions such as Unisys Agile Business Suite, Cognos BI, MS Power Automate & Power BI, Salesforce, Databridge, Tableau, and Talend.
- 60 months of experience in delivering Cognos BI training to end-user and IT staff in Cognos Reports Authoring, Dashboard Creation and Data Modules Configuration, and developing user/help guides, toolkits and SOPs.
- 36 months of reports creation and maintenance experience in Crystal Reports, Talend, Tableau, or similar reporting, data visualization and dashboard analytics tools.
- Obtained at least one of the following certifications along with their verifiable certification numbers, where applicable. Submit certification copies.
- IBM Cognos BI Certification
- MS Power BI certification
- Any Microsoft SQL server, data visualization, database fundamentals certifications.
- Cloud/CRM Reporting certifications such as MS Dynamics, Salesforce, Tableau, etc.
