Job Description

Mayo Behavioral Health Services is seeking an entry-level Claims Specialist to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve commercial property damage claims of low severity and complexity. This role emphasizes customer service, accurate file documentation, adherence to company procedures, and learning best claims practices under supervision and with ongoing training.

  • Key responsibilities
    • Investigate and evaluate assigned commercial property damage claims of low severity and complexity.
    • Communicate promptly and professionally with claimants, insureds, service providers, and other stakeholders by phone and in writing.
    • Apply company guidelines to determine coverage, investigate facts, and recommend appropriate claim resolution strategies.
    • Open, close, and adjust claim reserves in accordance with company procedures and under prescribed authority.
    • Document all claim activity, maintain organized claim files, and ensure timely updates using claims systems and related business software.
    • Refer or escalate complex issues to senior staff or management following established authority and file-conferencing procedures.
    • Assist in preparing files for subrogation, litigation, or trial as directed.
    • Submit required reports (e.g., severe incident, reinsurance) and participate in training to maintain current knowledge of relevant policy changes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Qualifications
    • Undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance, finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
    • Entry-level; 0–1 years of related experience in property claims or a customer service/insurance environment preferred. Recent graduates encouraged to apply.
    • State licensing where required for the position; successful completion of required company claims training and certifications as assigned.
    • Basic knowledge of insurance concepts, coverage application, and property damage estimating is beneficial; training will be provided to develop required technical skills.
    • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and the ability to provide clear, courteous customer service.
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills sufficient to gather facts, evaluate coverages, and recommend resolutions for low-complexity claims.
    • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines and service expectations.
    • Proficiency with personal computers and common office software; ability to learn and operate claims management systems.
  • Working conditions
    • Works under moderate direction with access to senior staff for guidance and escalation.
    • May require occasional attendance at trainings, meetings, or seminars to maintain and expand claims knowledge.
