Cardiovascular Surgical Assistant
Location: Cypress, TX
Avant First Assistants is seeking a highly skilled and dependable Cardiovascular Surgical Assistant to join our dedicated team in Cypress, Texas. Responsibilities:
Preoperative Duties:
- Meet the patient in the preoperative area and ensure consent and documents are complete and accurate
- Assist in patient preparation, including positioning, site preparation and draping in accordance with procedural and safety standards
- Ensure all necessary surgical instruments and equipment are prepared and readily available for procedures
- Conduct preoperative briefings with the surgical team to review case details and procedural requirements
Intraoperative Support:
- Provide direct surgical assistance to the operating physician, including tissue handling, retraction, hemostasis, and suturing
- Utilize advanced surgical techniques and instrumentation to facilitate efficient and precise procedures
- Maintain a sterile environment throughout the procedure, adhering to strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
- Monitor and respond to intraoperative needs adjusting support as necessary to ensure seamless surgical flow
Postoperative Responsibilities:
- Assist in patient stabilization and transfer patient from operating table to recovery area
- Ensure proper documentation of surgical procedures are complete
- Participate in debriefings to assess procedural outcomes and identify areas for improvement
Qualifications:
- Solid communication and customer service skills
- Prior experience as in a medical assisting role performing administrative duties or similar position in a healthcare work environment is preferred
- Ability use a computer to complete administrative tasks
- Must have completed an accredited medical assisting program and a supervised externship in a healthcare setting
- High school diploma or GED
- Must hold a valid and current Texas Medical Board issued Surgical Assistant License
- Valid and current Certification from a recognized accrediting body such as the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) or the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) is required
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Cardiovascular surgical assisting in a hospital or an outpatient surgical center
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proficient medical terminology with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency in various surgical specialties, including but not limited to cardiovascular, neurosurgery, orthopedic, general surgery and minimally invasive procedures
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Foreign MDs must pass TOEFL Test
